Fresh Faced

For some, going green is more than just skin deep.

New beauty products made from the earth are using as little-to-no preservatives, giving new meaning to the expression “fresh face.”

The Body Deli is a brand that features natural and organic products for your face and body.

Another site, Saffron Rouge, features only organic beauty products.

Talk about good for you.

A bus that walks

A walking school bus is a group of kids who “commute” to school together in a large walking group with one or more adults to accompany them.

It is usually the job of one adult to be the “driver” and another to be the “conductor” or “caboose” to follow the kids.

Walking school buses provide an alternative to driving to school and riding the bus, allow for bonding time with your kids, and encourage enthusiasm for exercising.

I don’t remember if these existed when I was in elementary school, but I’m pretty sure I would have loved it if it did.

Green Screens

In the James Cameron episode of Inside the Actors Studio, he openly refers to Avatar as a film with an environmental message.

Climate neutral movie production might become a trend of the future. Films like Syriana and The Day After Tomorrow are just a few feature films that are environmentally conscious.

Stars themselves also take strides toward being eco-friendly; Jake Gyllenhaal, Cameron Diaz, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Brad Pitt are among the many.

Help save the earth because you love cheap beer.

Come home from work or school and need to unwind? Looking for a good time with your friends on a Friday night?

What’s your go-to beverage of choice? Beer! Right?

And what’s better than a beer? An inexpensive beer? :)

Agreed.

But global warming may have a hand in a change in beer pricing in the future. As drought conditions increase across the world, beer’s main ingredients could be stressed. Britain has already seen a 2/3 increase in the cost of barley in 2008.

Climate Counts

Curious about companies that are ecologically friendly?

ClimateCounts.org is a website that tracks and ranks how environmentally friendly a company is. They have ratings for all kinds of industries: from food to media.

Scorecards are ranked on a 0-100 scale and include qualifiers like whether the company has reduced its emissions, if they have clear environmental goals, and the tracking of their overall carbon emissions.

The Newest Deal

Next time you go to Walmart, be on the lookout for sustainability rankings. Yes, Walmart has an ambitious plan to indicate on each of its products how sustainably-made each item is. It will allow consumers to become more educated, and competitive retailers will have to come up with similar systems to keep up. Though it may be at least a few more months to a few years until these markings hit shelves, it’s still a big thing for the retail market.
